Moving belongings into storage is only the beginning. Over time you may collect boxes, add furniture or change when you expect to need everything again. A regular check helps you keep track of your belongings and spot issues that need attention.
Plan a regular visit
The Self Storage Association UK recommends regular visits, ideally monthly where practical, to inspect belongings and allow air to circulate. Choose a date that suits your routine and allow enough time to look around.
At Enfield Lock Self Storage, customer access is available from 6am–7pm every day. Plan vehicle hire and any help with collections around those hours.
Look before moving boxes
Check for visible water, damaged packaging or stacks that have started to lean. Report damage or concerns promptly, explaining where you noticed them. A photograph can help show the problem.
Check that boxes remain strong enough to support anything stacked above them. Leave space for air circulation and avoid placing belongings against container walls, in line with SSA UK’s packing advice.
Keep the route to frequently needed items clear. If something is difficult to reach, arrange suitable help instead of turning a quick visit into an improvised lifting job.
Update your inventory
Record what you collected, what you added and any boxes you moved. A phone note or paper list is enough.
For example, “winter coats collected; two dining-room boxes added near the doors” gives you something useful to refer to next time. Date each entry. If several people collect belongings, agree who updates the list.
Use the visit to identify anything you no longer need to store. Decide what will be kept, passed on or taken home before arranging a larger collection.
Review your plans
Has your moving date changed? Is a room at home ready for its furniture again?
Our outdoor 20ft drive-up containers cost £195 per month, billed monthly in advance. We require one calendar month’s notice before you vacate, so contact us when your leaving plans become clearer.
Customers bring their own padlock and arrange insurance for their belongings. If your stored contents change, check that your cover remains suitable. Gated entry and CCTV form part of our security arrangements, but they do not guarantee against loss.
Keep us informed
Let us know if your contact details change. Before bringing something new, ask us if you are unsure whether outdoor container storage suits it.
