Getting everything into storage takes planning. Getting it out deserves a plan too. A clear collection date, a realistic transport arrangement and a place for each item at the other end can make the final month much easier.

Whether you are moving into a new home, finishing a renovation or taking business equipment back to your premises, start with the arrangements that need other people to be ready.

Start with one calendar month’s notice

At Enfield Lock Self Storage, we require one calendar month’s notice before you vacate. This helps us plan ahead and allocate the container to another customer.

Contact us to give notice and confirm your intended leaving date. Ask us to confirm the agreed final date before committing to transport arrangements. A calendar month is not the same as simply counting four weeks, so avoid guessing the deadline.

Our outdoor 20ft drive-up containers cost £195 per month, billed monthly in advance. If you are unsure how your leaving date fits your billing cycle, speak to us so the arrangements are clear.

Make sure the destination is ready

Before planning the last collection, check that you can actually receive everything. Is the room available? Can furniture get through the doorway? Has a contractor finished the work that needs the floor space?

If your collection depends on buying a home, keep in touch with your conveyancer about the completion arrangements. The government’s guide to buying a home explains when the completion date is agreed. Build your storage plan around confirmed information rather than a hoped-for moving date.

If your plans change, contact us promptly to discuss them. Do not assume an extension or a particular container will be available.

Decide what goes where before collection day

Work through your belongings and assign each group a destination: a named room at home, a place at your business premises, or another arrangement you have already organised.

A short collection list is enough. For each large item, note where it is going, who will help move it and whether it needs dismantling. Keep any fixings and assembly instructions with the matching furniture.

For several trips, split the list into loads. Put the items needed first at the destination into the right load, rather than collecting them simply because they happen to be nearest the container door.

Book enough time, transport and help

Our containers have drive-up access, so you can load beside your vehicle. Customer access is 6am–7pm every day. Allow enough time to load and leave within those hours, especially if you need more than one trip.

Tell your removal company or helpers about bulky or awkward items beforehand. Check that the vehicle is suitable for the load and follow its loading guidance. Arrange appropriate help for heavy items rather than leaving those decisions until you arrive.

Take the collection list, suitable packing materials and your padlock key. Keep essentials such as your phone and transport booking details accessible throughout the move.

Finish with a final check

After the last load, look around the whole container for belongings, loose fixings and packing materials. Compare the collection list with what has actually left, and ask us about the final handover arrangements.

Let us know when you have finished clearing the container. Keep the confirmation of your leaving arrangements with your storage paperwork so you have a clear record.

Customers arrange their own insurance for belongings. Check with your insurer what applies during collection and transport, rather than assuming the same arrangements cover every stage of the move.

Talk to us before your final month

A quick conversation at the planning stage can make the leaving arrangements clearer. Call 0808 281 3490 or email enquiries@enfieldlock.co.uk to discuss notice and collection, or ask about suitability and availability if you are planning a new storage rental.

You can call from 7am to around 8pm. Out-of-hours enquiries are picked up the next day.
